AESDirect is Moving to a New, Improved Platform!

In the coming weeks we will be migrating the AESDirect database to a new platform and new servers.

What does this mean to you?

Although the developers have created a number of internal changes to make the application more robust and easier to manage, the migrationWall construction will not require you to take direct action. The migration will be as transparent as possible. You will, however, see several small changes and improvements to the AESDirect application.

AESDirect.gov and AESWeblink Users

In the first phase of the migration beginning August 28, 2011, you will notice that some links on the Main Menu and within the application have been removed, added, or changed, as follows:

  • The “Retrieve an Existing Shipment”, “Delete Shipment from AES” and “AESDirect Archive Service” links have been removed from the Main Menu. The “Shipment Manager” provides you with access to all of your shipments and also allows you to retrieve, replace or delete them.
  • If you submit a shipment with a USPPI ID that is different from the EIN registered for that account, you will now see a pop-up message confirming that you are filing on the behalf of a party other than yourself.

In the second phase of the migration, user accounts will be moved to the new database servers. Accounts will be transitioned in groups beginning August 30, 2011 through the end of September 2011. After your transition takes place, you will notice a few more changes:

  • Error messages have been revised to make it easier for you to determine where the errors in your shipment are.
  • You will no longer have to differentiate between archived and new shipments. The application will now combine these two in a single search.

EDI Vendors and Clients

If you use EDI to submit to AESDirect or you are an EDI vendor, you will notice changes to the text of the error messages. The EDI system will mirror the same error messages as www.aesdirect.gov in order to reduce the amount of Fatal Errors.

    I am an authorize agent and we file hundreds of AES for our customers. Do you mean to tell me that we will have to see a pop up every time we file?????
    That would be extremely annoying…and a waste of time every time we would have to close a pop up. And makes absolutely no sense to have that as anyone that files for a USPPI knows that they are filing on behalf of the USPPI or the FPPI
    So please do not waste our time with something as annoying as as a pop up. We are already register as an Agent so there is no need to remind us hundreds of time.

    Hi Maria,
    This pop-up message will only appear if you registered as a USPPI and are filing on behalf of another USPPI. If you’re account was registered as an Authorized Agent/Freight Forwarder (as you indicate), you will not receive the pop up.
    Only those filers that register as a USPPI, but report an USPPI ID Number different from what was used when registering, will receive the message. The pop-up will ask to verify that the USPPI information is correct. If the user clicks “Ok”, the existing Filer profile will automatically be inserted into the Freight Forwarder section.

    @ Shruthi: Thank you for you input. I made mention to Maria that the pop-up will only appear if you registered as a USPPI and filing on behalf of another USPPI. If you would like to prevent the pop-up message from displaying, you will need to change your profile to appear as a Freight Forwarder. You can do this by contacting our Technical Support at 877-715-4433.
